smART Camp

smART Camp was held on March 16-20, 2009 at the Gateway Dance Studio in Des Moines IA. The spring 2009 camp was organized by Gateway Dance Theater \for youth in Grades 3-8.

The students were grouped according to grade level 3-5th and 6-8th grade. They participated in Academics, Dance, Martial Arts, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Yoga workshops every day for 5 days from 9 am-3.30pm. Every participant was awarded a prize, a medal and a certificate. 16 students participated in the workshop. Academic workshops

Each workshop was of 90-minute duration. IQ America instructors were university faculty and highly talented college, high school and middle school students.

Grades 3-5:
Five senses, Greatest Inventions, Greatest Civilizations, Public Speaking, & IQ Bowl.

Grades 6-8:
Health, Disease & Environment, Greatest Discoveries, Leadership & entrepreneurship, Public Speaking, & IQ Bowl.

Cultural workshops

In addition the students also participated in the cultural art workshops organized by Gateway Dance Theater. These were:

  • Moving to the Rhythms of the World- Dance & Percussion Travel the world through high energy dances with any array of rhythms
  • It’s All in Your Hands- Crafts Found a box of beads and buttons in your attic? How to make memories with photographs–Crafts
  • Defend and Defeat -Martial arts. Be your own source of power. Build up internal as well as external discipline.
  • Roll Over Rodgers & Hammerstein –Song writing. Learn the process of songwriting and write your own songs.
