Invention Convention

The 1st Annual Lithia Honda-Nissan of Ames Invention Convention and Science Olympiad Playoffs was held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Gilbert Lutheran Church. It was attended by over 16 students and their families. The event began with an hour of Science workshop on “Gases, Liquids and Solids”, followed by the Invention Convention and Science Olympiad Playoffs. The students presented their inventions. Science Olympiad participants brought their build on models and also participated in the quiz competition. Every participant was awarded a medal or a ribbon and a certificate.

Mrs. Jean Saveraid, Coordinator of Project Go, GEMS and GEL programs at Gilbert Community Schools and Mr. Thomas Pahl of 3M were invited guests that assisted in the award ceremony. Mrs. Saveraid was awarded a plaque for her support of educational activities for the Gilbert Schools and their learning communities.

The Invention Convention and Science Olympiad Playoffs was sponsored by Lithia Honda-Nissan of Ames and hosted by the 4-H and the Gilbert Academy. Vellareddy Anantharam, Ph.D, Jean Saveraid, MS and Mullai Sritharan were the organizers of the contest. Thomas Pahl of 3M coordinated the Science workshop.

The following are the winners of the Invention Convention and were selected to the move onto the Iowa Invention Convention to be held on March 3, 2008 at 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Nevada Middle School.

The following are the winners of Science Olympiad quiz competition. The winners were quizzed on Rocks and Minerals, Crave the Wave, Anatomy, Meteorology, Oceanography, Amphibians, Reptiles and much more.

Grades 6-9 winners (alphabetical list) Colby Abrams, Puneet Anantharam, Umar Farooq, Eric Pahl, Zach Pahl and Aaron Sacks.

Grades 3-5 winners (alphabetical list) Noah Dalgliesh, Cody Dvorak, Schuyler Hop, Bryleigh Janvrin, Grant Pahl , Jonathan Pixler, and Krishan Sritharan.
