Quiz Bowl

The 2nd Annual Wilson Toyota Quiz Bowl was held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Gilbert Lutheran Church.

It was attended by over 24 students and their families. The students were grouped according to grade level, third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade. They competed in two round-robin rounds and a final buzzer round. Every participant was awarded either a ribbon, medal or trophy and a certificate.

Jon Popp, Mayor of Gilbert was a invited guest who assisted in the award ceremony. Popp was awarded a plaque for his support of educational activities for the Gilbert Schools and their learning communities. Holland Dougherty, freshman at Iowa State University, Jared Haverdink, freshman and Chester Fisher, Sophomore, at Gilbert High School were moderators.

The Quiz Bowl was sponsored by Ames Wilson Toyota and hosted by the 4-H and Gilbert Academy.

Dr. Vellareddy Anantharam, Mrs. Jean Saveraid and Mrs. Mullai Sritharan were the organizers of the quiz bowl.

The following were the winners of the competition:

Grade 3-5:

Team Champions: Elisabeth Culek, Grant Peterson and Sura Smadi.

Runner-up: Kristy Ihle, Christlan Harder and Sidney Ayers

Third place team: Cody Dvorak, Krishan Sritharan and Sam Sells.

Fourth place team: Josh Pierce, Colin Safly, Bryleigh Janvrin and Durga Sritharan

Grades 6-8:

Team Champions: Syed Umar Farooq, Nolan Adair and Annika Rotto.

Runner-up: Kayla Pierce, Chris Culek and Mitchell Cook

Third place team: Puneet Anantharam, Ryan Gallus and Lidia Lavrova

Fourth place team: Levi Fisher, Aaron Sacks and Taymon Ayers
